Tune-Up
Most vehicle drivers are familiar with the term “tune-up”, but what is a tune-up exactly and when is it needed? The definition of a tune-up has changed dramatically over the years, however, its purpose has remained relatively the same. A car tune-up is basically a high mileage service that helps restore your vehicle’s overall performance and fuel efficiency.
How often your vehicle needs a tune-up will depend upon a few factors. If you drive a much older vehicle that does not have electronic ignition, you may need a tune-up more frequently. Newer model vehicles typically need a tune-up between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. It’s a good rule of thumb to check your car’s owner’s manual to see the recommended mileage interval for major services for your specific vehicle.
If your vehicle is due for a tune-up, we invite you into The Car Guys for professional service. Our ASE-certified technicians will perform a full vehicle inspection to see what services are needed to restore your vehicle back to its best. Typically, spark plugs are replaced, timing and idle are adjusted, and your timing belt is replaced. However, the services your vehicle will need will vary depending on the age and condition of your car overall.
If you notice that your vehicle has become somewhat of a gas guzzler or your engine is running rough, it may be time for a tune-up. Bring your car or truck into our shop, and we will determine whether or not your vehicle needs a major service performed. Rest assured, you’ll receive a full estimate of any of our recommendations for your complete approval before beginning any work, and any repair or service advice will be thoroughly explained. Our ultimate goal is to get your vehicle running at its best again while also ensuring your safety on the road.
